Army Of Solar Power

From PSFK:

The US Army has released plans for what would be the world’s biggest solar power plant. Partnering with a private sector 500-megawatt solar thermal plant in California, the army hopes to increase its use of renewable energy to not only reduce emissions, and costly energy expenses, but bring added security from power disruption.

“We spend over $3 billion every year on energy and the majority of it is spent on our installations. We can significantly reduce our energy consumption by partnering within government and with the private sector to capitalize on the great strides in proven technology that have been developed and implemented across the country”, said Secretary of the Army Pete Geren.

If the US army is buying solar - then you really know you’ve hit the mainstream!
